3 Things a Face Painter Wants You to Know.
Let's talk talent, time and money...
Entertainment Industry.
Face and body art is part of the International Entertainment Industry.
Time and Currency.
Professional face painters get paid with money at every gig.
Skill and Dedication.
A good face painter will have some artistic talent and yes, call them an artist.
Did you know that face and body art is part of the International Entertainment Industry, flooded with famous artist, competitions and conventions? Much like musicians, comedians and street performers, face and body painters are entertainers. Face painting can be a full-time job and many people run very successful businesses. A face painter will travel, paint in hot and cold climates, stand on their feet for hours, (without a bathroom break) all while smiling, entertaining and managing a line of people paying with their “time” as their currency – read on…
Face painters are booked in two ways. Pay-per-face or private/corporate bookings. Pay-per-face is when the public pays the artist directly for the artwork and service. A private or corporate booking is when the event organizer pays the artist directly and the public get it for free – but – they must wait in line, and this is where they pay with their “time” as their currency.
Both ways the artist gets paid with money. It is important to understand that just because it’s “free” it doesn’t undervalue the artist. It is a good idea as you wait in line, to think of it as your contribution. Nothing in this world is free (except love) Wait patiently and pay with your time.
Back in “the day” face paint products consisted of mainly colourful waxy sticks used to scribble a heart, star, or rainbow on our cheeks. It was honestly horrendous; it was all we knew, and we loved it! These days, there is a plethora of products out there. There are amazingly talented artists who create artwork that is breath-taking. The number of hours that go into creating such designs is overwhelming, not to mention the cost of the materials involved. Face painters that run local businesses, don’t just pull out their paints on the job. They work hard behind the scenes to keep up to date with trends, provide diversity within their services and upskill themselves as the years go by. Not anyone can be a face painter. You must really love it. You must have a bit of creative flair and you must be dedicated.
