Tips For Finding Your Artistic Style

Learn who you are and what people love about you!

Find

Your

Style

Do you ever wonder who you are and what people truly think of you? That question can spiral into something complicated, but the answer is often surprisingly simple.
Ask yourself:
Do you walk in nature?
Do you feel sand between your toes?
Do you ever sit under a tree and let your thoughts drift by?

If the answer is “not really,” then that’s your starting point.

When you step into nature — with a loved one, a friend, or even just yourself — you reconnect with the version of you that isn’t filtered, curated, or performing. Talk about what you’re grateful for. Notice what your loved one appreciates about you. That’s where your real self lives, and that’s where your artistic style begins.

Tip 1. You won’t find your artistic style by scrolling. You’ll find inspiration, sure — maybe even motivation — but not you.

Your authentic self shows up when you’re grounded, quiet, and connected to the world around you. Nature has a way of stripping away comparison and noise. When you know who you are, your art starts to reflect that naturally.

Tip 2. Paint what gives you a dopamine kick. Forget perfection. Forget technique. Forget what you “should” be painting.

Paint what feels good. Paint what makes you smile. Paint what gives you that little spark of joy.

Skill builds over time. Style builds through repetition. But joy? That’s the fuel. Meet yourself where you are and paint for fun — not for approval.

Tip 3. Explore other artists’ artwork (not research – explore!) “Research” sounds like homework. “Explore” sounds like play.

Re‑create designs you love. Try styles you’ve never touched before. Copying is part of learning — just reference the artist if you share it. Every artist starts this way. Exploration helps you understand what you’re drawn to and what you naturally do differently.

Tip 4. Your artistic style is already there. This is the part most artists don’t realise for years.
Your style isn’t something you find.
It’s something you notice.

It’s in your muscle memory.
It’s in your instincts.
It’s in the way your hand moves without thinking.

For so long, I wondered:
“Am I the floral painter? The cartoon painter? The tribal painter?”

But no matter what I painted, my style showed up. I couldn’t escape it — because it’s me. It’s my signature. Other people could see it long before I could.

Your style is the evolution of your desires. It’s the thread that runs through everything you create, even when you switch themes or techniques.

The truth – (You can’t not have a style.) Your artistic style is always present. It’s not a destination — it’s a journey.

Whether you paint florals, cartoons, animals, or abstract shapes, your style will shine through. You might not be able to put your finger on it, but others will. They’ll recognise your work before they see your name.
